Recently, Google has announced that it will ‘favour’ website’s which are the most accessible on all devices. This is a really good policy to ensure the maximum amount of information is made accessible to everyone.
In some regions, people don’t have desktop/laptops, their phone is their only access to the World-Wide-Web. For the rest of us, the phone and tablet are just a convenience bonus, but it’s easy for ‘convenience’ to become irritation if a site doesn’t adapt well on all mobile devices.
The compromise if you adapt your site to be mobile responsive.
I prefer to start from scratch on a Responsive website (Wiki link ‘Responsive Web design‘ explained). Yes there are ways to adapt and convert current fixed-format sites, but it’s always going to be a compromise in some aspects.
